Siesta Key Kayaking

Another day paddling a great little kayaking loop starting from the Turtle Beach Campground on Siesta Key!  Our pop up camper is directly next to the gate to the parking lot for Turtle Beach itself,  and that is where the boat launch is located. So, steps from our site.

The loop we do is to paddle down Midnight Pass and into the lagoon, cross the Intracoastal Waterway channel to explore the Osprey Point Sanctuary area, and then cross back over to Casey Key.  Casey Key is an area of large, waterfront homes facing the ocean and lagoon that can’t be reached from Siesta Key by road, although the beach and dunes are contiguous now that the pass filled in near where the old marine research stations was.

After admiring the fine homes, we continue into Midnight Pass again, and then portage across the dunes at Midnight Pass Beach.  This is just a place where lagoon and ICW boaters pull out or anchor to walk over to the deserted beach.  We usually relax and picnic / swim there, and then paddle the open ocean back to Turtle Beach Campground’s own beach.  It’s a relaxed paddle of about 12 miles total, and a nice way to spend an afternoon.
